Endometriosis Australia

The factsEndometriosis Au logo

Endometriosis is a common disease in which the tissue that normally lines the uterus grows outside the womb in other parts of the body. 10% of women suffer with Endometriosis at some point in their life. It often starts in teenage years. Symptoms vary between women, which contributes to the current 7 to 10 year delay in diagnosis. Common symptoms include pelvic pain that puts life on hold around or during your period. It can damage your fertility.

It most often affects reproductive organs. It can also affect your bowel, bladder and other organs near your pelvic cavity.

Why Endometriosis Australia?

Female For Life’s founder suffers from Endometriosis and knows first hand the impacts it can have on a woman’s life and health:

“I suffered for years with debilitating pelvic pain, irritable bowel syndrome and ultimately exhaustion. The doctors never seemed to put the two together and eventually I was convinced I was having a mental breakdown, sleeping 14 hours a day and unable to function. My endometriosis severely impacted a crucial time in my life and I wish I had been educated that it was more than “period pain” and there was more to managing than “taking an anti inflammatory and getting on with it”.

“I am honoured that Female For Life is partnering with Endometriosis Australia, and I hope that this partnership will result in thousands of women being educated about this disease and avoiding or minimising their pain.”

How are we partnering?

Female For Life will be raising awareness on endometriosis by:

  • posting blogs about endometriosis written by health experts on the topic
  • promoting any fundraising or awareness events run by Endometriosis Australia; and
  • creating an Endometriosis awareness range with profits going to Endometriosis Australia (to be available Jan 2014)
